A Kotlin/MVVM-based Android app for managing meeting minutes while displaying PDF meeting materials, allowing for note-taking, recording, bookmarking, and inserting blank pages.
MeetingNote is an Android meeting note app designed to allow users to display meeting materials on the screen, take notes directly on them, record audio, and organize meeting content in one place. Developed in Kotlin, it runs on Android 10 and above and is built on an MVVM architecture. It aims to replicate the experience of taking notes on printed paper with a pen in a digital format, and its most significant feature is the seamless integration of material viewing, note-taking, and recording within a single screen.
The basic flow of the app is as follows: On the meeting list, the first screen, you create a new meeting, enter the title and date, and attach a PDF file. Meetings can be grouped by date or month, and you can also search for titles using the search bar. Tapping an item in the list takes you to the viewer screen, where the meeting proceeds in earnest. Even without a PDF, you can create a meeting using only a blank page, making it possible to use it like a regular notepad.
The viewer utilizes Android's built-in PDF renderer to clearly render documents and pre-renders adjacent pages for fast page navigation. You can zoom in up to four times using a two-finger pinch or double-tap, and freely move the screen while zoomed in. The writing tools include ballpoint pens, highlighters, and erasers. You can select colors and thicknesses, and the application of smooth curve processing ensures natural-looking handwriting. Undo and redo functions are also supported. In addition to pen writing, you can input text directly onto the page, paste images imported from the gallery or camera, and drag, resize, and rotate them. There is also a media annotation feature that allows you to record audio or video and place it on the page as a small icon.
Meeting recording is one of the core features of this app. Pressing the record button captures the entire meeting audio. Whenever you turn a page during the recording, that specific point is saved along with the audio, allowing you to follow along with the page you were viewing at the time while listening to the recording later. The recording operates as a dedicated foreground service, ensuring that the recording does not stop even if the app is minimized to the background. It allows for pauses and resumes, and the screen remains on. There is a protection mechanism to save the recording even if the app is suddenly closed, and completed recording files can be sent to other apps or saved using the share button.
In terms of document organization, you can create additional memo space by inserting blank A4 pages at desired locations within PDFs, and you can delete blank pages that are no longer needed. In this process, existing handwriting and bookmarks are automatically tracked to follow page transitions, ensuring that notes do not appear on the wrong page. By naming each page and registering them as bookmarks, you can navigate directly to your desired location within the handwriting list panel. Once you are finished, you can export the document as a new PDF with your handwriting and annotations intact, making it easy to share meeting results with others.
All data is stored in the device's internal storage. Handwriting and annotations are saved in a proprietary binary format called ATY, which is restored exactly as they are when the app is reopened. Furthermore, deleting annotations cleans up unused images and media files, preventing wasted storage space. The app also includes a recalculation mechanism to ensure the position and size of handwriting remain consistent even when the screen is rotated horizontally or vertically.
In terms of usability, a welcome message appears upon initial launch, and pressing the question mark button on the list screen allows you to view help for specific functions such as meeting management, viewing, handwriting, and recording. Interface text is standardized in Korean, buttons have been enlarged for easier touch, and the app is fixed to a light theme to prevent screen distortion. For the revenue model, Google AdMob advertising is implemented, featuring a single card-style native ad slot in the list. Interstitial ads appear when the "Add" button is pressed after three or more meetings have been accumulated, and the design ensures that the user flow is not disrupted even if ads load slowly. A privacy policy document for the launch is also prepared.
In summary, MeetingNote is a practical meeting recording tool that combines material viewing, handwriting, multimedia annotation, and recording into a single device, allowing users to handle the entire process from meeting preparation to recording and sharing on a single smartphone.
