Decibel Meter — Sound Level

Decibel Meter turns your phone into a sound level meter you can actually
understand. It shows the noise level around you, tells you which scale
that number is on, and lets you correct it.

Most decibel meter apps show a number and hope you don't ask questions.
This one answers them.


WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT

- A, C and Z frequency weighting — dB(A), dB(C) and dB(Z) — with a
plain-English explanation of each, right next to the switch
- Fast (125 ms) and Slow (1 s) time weighting, following IEC 61672
- MIN, AVG and MAX for every session. MAX is built to hold short, sharp
sounds instead of averaging them away
- A calibration offset you control, ±30 dB, saved between sessions
- HOLD freezes the display without stopping the measurement
- Session history, with undo on anything destructive


BUILT NOT TO BREAK

A noise meter is useless if it stops working the moment something changes.

- Keeps measuring when you plug in headphones, connect Bluetooth, or
switch back to the built-in microphone — and tells you when the input
changed
- Handles low sample-rate inputs instead of refusing to run. If your
Bluetooth headset runs at 16 kHz, the app says so and tells you the
frequency range it can still cover
- Recovers on its own after a phone call, an alarm, or a trip to another
app
- Your music, podcast or call keeps playing while you measure


ABOUT ANDROID DEVICES

Microphone sensitivity varies between Android handsets far more than it
does between iPhones. This dB meter is honest about that.

Open Settings to see exactly which audio source the app obtained on your
device, and whether your handset allowed it to disable automatic gain
control. Your calibration offset is stamped with your phone model, so a
setting restored from a different handset is flagged rather than silently
applied.

Calibrate once against a reference sound level meter before relying on
the absolute number.


HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT IS

This is a phone app using a phone microphone. It is not a certified
sound level meter. Don't use it where a Type 1 or Type 2 instrument is
required, or as the basis for a legal, medical or workplace decision.

The colour zones on the dial are guidance, not a verdict. Readings
depend on your device, the microphone in use, and your calibration
setting.
