Big Bass Bonanza puts that on the bench: you draw your water as a cross-section — surface area, shape, and the four shelves a wildlife pond is built on, from bog through shallow marginal and deep marginal to deep water — then plant it from twenty real aquatics, each set onto the shelf it actually belongs on.

💧 From there, a deterministic engine does the arithmetic a grower otherwise does by eye and by argument: litres held, floating-leaf cover measured against the 50–70 per cent band that helps control algae, oxygenator bunches per square metre, whether a shelf's water sits inside a plant's depth range, what the mature spreads will do to one another in three summers, which vigorous plants may take over the whole margin if you don't contain them in a basket, and whether your winter runs colder than a plant can tolerate.

📋 Every verdict names the rule it came from, so you can understand the reasoning behind each recommendation and decide whether you agree with it.

☀️ The sun is the one figure no table will give you, so you photograph it: three pictures of the same corner — morning, midday and afternoon. Each frame is read across a grid for how much of it is lit, dappled or in shade. This measures relative brightness inside your own picture, not with a light meter, and becomes the sun budget every plant is then judged against. The pictures stay on your phone and can be removed at any time.
