《尚書》又稱《書》、《書經》，是一部多體裁文獻彙編，長期被認為是中國現存最早的史書，但是清華簡證明傳世的《尚書》部分（偽《古文尚書》部分）為偽書。該書分為《虞書》、《夏書》、《商書》、《周書》。戰國時期總稱《書》，漢代改稱《尚書》，即“上古之書”。因是儒家五經之一，又稱《書經》。內容主要是君王任命官員或賞賜諸侯時發佈的政令。
