Users appreciate KOLO8 as a source of local news, weather, and alerts when it works. However, the repeated complaints are substantial: disruptive autoplay ads, app crashes and loading problems, unreliable or mismatched notifications, and concerns about article accuracy, editing, and timeliness. Some users say these issues have led them to uninstall the app.
Pros
Provides useful local news, weather, and alerts when the app is working.
Some users find the news articles informative and the app convenient for a quick glance at local news.
Cons
Intrusive ads are the most frequent complaint: videos often autoplay with loud audio, interrupt reading, and are difficult or impossible to stop.
The app is unreliable for many users, with reports of slow loading, buffering, freezing, and crashes.
Stories and notifications can be inaccurate or poorly matched: alerts may lead to unrelated stories, and some updates appear old or delayed.
Users report notification problems, including unwanted notifications that cannot be disabled and delayed alerts arriving in batches.
Several users criticize article quality, citing spelling and grammar errors, outdated or irrelevant content, and slow coverage of breaking news.
Recent reviews
I am following the Hawk Fire. Kolo8 alerts "new" update BUT the video/story says 6 hours ago, 24 hours ago. etc. This should state 30 minutes ago, 1 hour ago, etc. Very upsetting and confusing. I am discouraged by this and less inclined to respond to "Alerts". Please do better.
