User Reviews

Users appreciate Image Shrink for its simplicity, speed, and reliable batch resizing capabilities without ads or heavy permissions. However, multiple users report common issues such as rotated portrait images after resizing, especially on newer phones and with HEIC format. The app lacks on-demand save folder selection and file size targeting, limiting its flexibility. Some find that resized images are renamed disrupting original order. Compatibility problems on recent devices and OS versions have been noted, causing errors and hangs. Overall, it's valued for core functionality but has room for modernization and bug fixes.
Pros
  • Simple and easy to use interface that performs batch image resizing efficiently.
  • Minimal permissions required, enhancing user privacy and security.
  • High functionality with options like multiselect and setting image quality and resolution.
  • Reliable and fast image shrinking that works as intended for years for many users.
  • Free version is fully functional and ad-free, with a valuable paid version for additional features.
Cons
  • Orientation issues with portrait photos, especially with .heic format or newer Samsung phones, causing images to rotate incorrectly.
  • Lack of ability to choose the save location on demand; only a default output folder can be set, causing inconvenience.
  • No option to set an exact output file size limit (e.g., 250kb), which is important for specific use cases.
  • App has compatibility and stability issues on newer devices/OS versions (Samsung S23, Huawei P30 Pro, Android 13), including errors and hangs.
  • Renaming of resized images changes file names and disrupts original file order, which some users find problematic.

Needs upgrades. This worked great for me for years but at some point Android changed its permission requirements and this can no longer write the shrunk files. I need to grant permission to write files, but the app is not configured to ask for those permissions. That's my best guess, anyway. Great app. Just needs upgrades from what I can tell.
