Have you ever felt at a loss as to why your monthly electricity bill is so high?
Residential electricity rates are subject to a progressive pricing system where the unit price increases as usage increases. This progressive structure is the very reason why your bill can increase by more than 20,000 won just by using an additional 100 kWh. The 'Electricity Bill Calculator' is an unofficial information calculation app that compiles the progressive pricing unit price table, discount schemes, and practical saving tips all in one place.
[Electricity Bill Summary]
Residential = Basic Charge + Energy Consumption Charge (Progressive) + Climate & Environment Charge 9 won + Fuel Cost Adjustment Charge 5 won + VAT 10% + Electricity Industry Infrastructure Fund 3.7%. You need to examine the bill item by item to see where the money is leaking.
** [2026 Progressive Rate Table]
• Tier 1: 0–200 kWh — 120.0 won per kWh
• Tier 2: 200–400 kWh — 214.6 won per kWh (approximately 1.8 times Tier 1)
• Tier 3: Over 400 kWh — 307.3 won per kWh (approximately 2.6 times Tier 1)
• Super User: Over 1,000 kWh — 736.2 won per kWh (approximately 6.1 times Tier 1)
[Summer/Winter Progressive Rate Easing]
During July and August, when air conditioning and heating loads are high, the rates will be temporarily expanded to Tier 1 (0–300 kWh) and Tier 2 (300–450 kWh). Even if you use the same 350 kWh, you will be subject to Tier 1 rates during the summer, resulting in a reduced bill.
