User Reviews

SoundWire Full-Audio Streaming is praised for its low latency, ease of setup, and flexibility in turning phones into wireless speakers or audio receivers. Many users appreciate its reliability and advanced audio customization features. However, recurring issues include audio latency drifting and cracking over time, choppiness especially under poor network conditions, and a lack of two-way audio communication. Some users also face challenges with networking complexity and desire features like automatic audio interruption when unplugging headphones. Overall, it is a well-regarded app that performs well if configured properly and used within ideal network environments.
Pros
  • Low latency streaming especially in pro mode, making the app reliable for various audio needs.
  • Easy to set up and use with a straightforward installation process.
  • Allows turning a phone into a wireless speaker or digital audio receiver effectively.
  • Provides features beyond basic streaming, including audio compression and synchronization options.
  • Acts as a flexible and useful tool for audio routing and monitoring across devices on the local network.
Cons
  • Latency can drift or increase over time causing audio cracking and disruption, requiring reconnection or restarts.
  • Audio may cut in and out or become choppy under certain network conditions or heavy device usage.
  • App lacks the ability for two-way audio or transmitting audio from client to server, limiting some use cases.
  • Users need a basic understanding of networking to troubleshoot connection problems, with some issues on auto-discovery and firewall configuration.
  • No option to mute or interrupt audio automatically when headphones are unplugged, leading to unexpected sound output.

I use this to monitor my soft phone on my PC for when it rings and it works great. However, whenever I walk between WiFi mesh nodes with my Android device, it seems like I lose audio stream and would have to reconnect SoundWire on my phone,, my WiFi on my mobile device, or both. I don't have a mobile app license of said softphone. As a workaround I just leave my spare Android phone in the kitchen while it streams so it stays at just one Mesh node.

Probably my most used app in terms of hours left open in the background. When setup using pro mode the latency is low enough that I no longer even bother connecting my headphones to my computer, not even for calls, it's just that reliable (this is with wired headphones). Kudos to the dev for keeping this updated over the years, I can safely say this was money well spent.
