GardeManger Malin tracks your stock and shopping in real time.
Smart Pantry is a Flutter app for households that want to effortlessly manage their pantry. From a clear dashboard, everyone can view stock levels, predefined categories, and critical locations, while receiving alerts when thresholds are reached or expiration dates are approaching. Each item can be added, modified, or deleted in just a few taps, along with its nutritional information, category, and storage location, providing a complete overview of the pantry and reducing mealtime oversights. The experience remains seamless on Android, iOS, and the web thanks to Flutter and a Material 3 theme that seamlessly integrates light and dark modes.
Shopping Management
To plan your shopping, the app offers flexible lists where you can manually add necessary items, check off purchased products, and prepare future orders. In the short term, lists will leverage low-stock alerts to automatically suggest missing items, transforming the application into a true memory aid.
Technical Architecture
The SQLite database, initialized on first launch, includes tables for items, categories, locations, and lists, ensuring a robust and fast offline experience. Business services encapsulate local access logic and calls to OpenFoodFacts, ready to automatically enrich product pages with nutritional information, brands, and labels.
The application relies on a centralized router that orchestrates screens, a unified Material 3 theme to guarantee visual consistency, and isolated services that facilitate future evolution to a connected mode. Standard Flutter commands like 'flutter run', 'flutter analyze', and 'flutter test' ensure a simple development cycle, while build_runner keeps the serialized models up to date.
User Journey
The journey begins with a guided setup that automatically installs the most common storage categories and locations: refrigerator, freezer, dry pantry, and pantry. Each household can then personalize these settings, add its own zones, and set alert thresholds for critical ingredients.
The dashboard highlights products that are about to expire, stock levels below the minimum, and key statistics: number of items, breakdown by category, and estimated pantry value. The tabbed interface allows navigation between inventory, shopping lists, and settings, enhancing the user experience.
Roadmap
The roadmap includes several major enhancements. Cloud synchronization via Firebase will enable real-time sharing of the family inventory across multiple devices, while maintaining a secure local fallback. Planned notifications will alert users to critical stock levels or products nearing their expiration date, while smart shopping list suggestions will anticipate needs based on shopping habits. An AI layer will analyze shopping habits to optimize pantry management and reduce food waste.
Vision
GardeManger Malin aims to become the central culinary assistant for the home: a local, data-respecting tool, scalable to the cloud, that multiplies family efficiency by simplifying the daily organization of meals and shopping, while promoting sustainable and responsible cooking.
