User reviews

FullReader offers broad format support and cloud integration with strong text-to-speech features including multiple voices and accents, making it a versatile e-book reader. However, multiple users report intrusive ads in the free version affecting user experience. TTS functionality has bugs like stopping abruptly, poor position memory, and limited navigation which frustrate some users. Performance issues such as long start times and crashes also occur. Despite these drawbacks, many appreciate its useful features and overall reading experience.
Pros
  • Supports many e-book formats and integrates with cloud services like OneDrive and Dropbox.
  • Provides extensive text-to-speech (TTS) features with various voice options and accents.
  • Ad-supported free version ads are minimal and unobtrusive for some users.
  • Offers functionalities such as automatic page turning and a user-friendly book scanning feature.
  • Good foundation and essential features for reading and listening to ebooks, with a generally smooth reading experience.
Cons
  • Ads have become increasingly intrusive, including pop-ups and video ads that disrupt reading and are difficult to avoid without a paid version.
  • Text-to-speech has issues like not remembering the last reading position reliably, inability to skip by pages or paragraphs, and stopping unexpectedly, especially when multitasking or locking the screen.
  • Application has occasional performance problems such as long load times on startup and random crashes during reading or TTS usage.
  • Customization issues: inability to set default TTS voice, lack of custom pronunciation options, and limited navigation controls within TTS mode.
  • Security and privacy concerns with full OneDrive access instead of sharing limited folder links.

I like that it can automatically turn pages for manual reading which is configurable too, plus for text2speech it provides a lot of voice options. Only drawback is I cannot provide pronunciation alternatives to the text2speech engine. Even the Ads in the free version doesn't bother with the reading by occupying very minimal (almost 2-3 lines worth only) screen space that took in the bottom. Thank you for this excellent app. Hope you will provide pronunciation options for the speech engines.

It *was* great, a solid 4-5 stars. I installed it probably 3+ years ago now. Had minimal ads, good Dropbox integration, was perfect for reading my favorite books. Its still a good reader at its heart, however the ad implementation now is awful. I got around it by swapping to airplane mode while reading for a while but when I forget, I remember that I should be looking for this apps replacement.
