Find new places to hike, bird, and explore — then see the hidden landscapes beneath your feet. Ecoseek maps ecoregions, public lands, and nearby nature observations so you can log every outdoor discovery.

Ecologists have divided each U.S. state into ecoregions — distinct areas where geology, landforms, climate, soils, plants, water, and wildlife come together in recognizable patterns. A pine-covered mountain slope, a sagebrush basin, a prairie wetland, and a river valley can all feel completely different underfoot — even when they’re only a short drive apart. Ecoseek overlays those boundaries on a map of your surroundings and gives you a field journal to record what you find.

THE MAP

Open the map and see ecological region boundaries layered over your location. Tap any region to read a description of its character — what grows there, what lives there, and what hikers and wildlife observers nearby have recently recorded. Public lands within each region are listed too, with details on who manages them and how they're accessed.

LOGGING A VISIT

Whether you're hiking, birding, or simply spending time outside, log a note and a photo when you visit somewhere worth remembering. The app records your location and the region you were in automatically. Over time, your entries become a personal outdoor journal of landscapes you've visited.

THE JOURNAL

A state-by-state checklist shows which ecoregions you've visited and which ones remain. If you're close to seeing every region in a particular group, the app will quietly let you know — an optional nudge, not a deadline.

MILESTONES

As you explore and log, small private milestones appear — your first outing, your first visit to a new state, completing all the regions in a group. Nothing is shared or required.

DISCOVER

The Discover section features a spotlight on a region in your state, with recent wildlife observations from the naturalist community. It also surfaces regions seeing more observer activity than last month — a useful signal for finding places worth visiting.
