The beginnings of Abu Bakr Salem
Abu Bakr bin Salem bin Zain bin Hassan Balfaqih was born on March 17, 1939 in Tarim, Hadhramaut Governorate, in the Republic of Yemen. He belongs to an ancient family known for writing poetry and for its love of literature and science.

Abu Bakr lost his father before he completed his first year and grew up with his good mother, daughter of Sayyid Omar bin Hussein al-Kaf, his grandfather Zain bin Hassan, and his uncles.

He was educated at the Brothers’ School in Tarim, after which he graduated from the Teachers’ Preparation Institute, and worked as a teacher of the Arabic language for three years before discovering his talent for singing.

Achievements of Abu Bakr Salem
Abu Bakr Salem began his artistic career in the mid-fifties of the last century, when he moved to the city of Aden and worked there as a percussionist with various artists and got acquainted with a number of the most important poets and writers.

In 1956, he recorded his first songs on Radio Aden, including “Ya Ward, my home, your beauty,” which was one of his words and tunes, and sung after that by the great master Talal Maddah.

In 1958, he moved to Beirut, where he continued his artwork and recorded a number of successful songs that helped him expand his fame to become one of the most prominent singers in the Arab world. He also re-recorded and distributed some of his previous songs and participated in concerts in the Arab Gulf countries.

One of his most important works that he wrote, composed and sang during that period was a song that came to walk slowly and 24 hours and when I see you, as many Lebanese artists sang to him.

In 1975, Abu Bakr was forced to leave Beirut due to the civil war in Lebanon, and moved to Kuwait, where he spent a short period before settling in Saudi Arabia and obtaining Saudi citizenship.

The star of Abu Bakr Salem rose in the eighties of the last century, which was the golden age of his artistic career. During that period, he presented a number of his distinguished masterpieces and collaborated with a number of the most important poets and composers, such as Faiq Abdul Jalil and Hussein Al-Mahadar, in addition to a number of songs he wrote, composed and sang himself.

Among the most famous of these works was the song Grapes fi Ghosouneh, Ghazani Gray and Fire of Longing. He also achieved great success in the two songs, “The Messenger of My People” and “I’m Ghrad” in Wadi Al-Dour from the San’ani heritage.

He continued to shine and succeed in the nineties, and he released and continued to work with his companion, the poet Hussein Al-Madhahri, who wrote for him a group of distinguished songs such as Chance of a Lifetime and Good Luck.

In addition to songs written and composed by Abu Bakr Salem, in some of them he expressed the pain of being away from the homeland and the suffering experienced by the expatriates, and these works achieved great success, including Ya Samar and on the shores of Aden and the treachery of the night.

In 2004, the great artist released a Khaleeji album called Awraqy, and although it only included two songs, it achieved great success and spread. He was followed in 2007 by the release of his famous album, Celebrate Al Jarrah, which included a group of his most important songs, including It's Time to Meet Wea Badr.

He released his next album, titled "Doors Are Closed", in 2010, and included a song "Fi Al Sama'a Ghaem" from his words and melodies, as well as "Ahab Al-Fareq", which was written and composed by his friend Hussein Al-Mohadher.

After an absence for a while, Abu Bakr returned and released his last album, See Me Solve, in 2017, with Rotana, which quickly achieved fame and great success.
