Review summary

Users appreciate "Who's Responding" for improving call notifications over traditional methods, responsive support, and useful features like tracking responders. However, frequent app glitches, notification problems, lack of smartwatch integration, and issues after updates frustrate many. Some desire additional features like scheduled duty times and better message retention. Despite shortcomings, the app remains a valuable tool for volunteer and professional firefighters.
Pros
  • App effectively notifies users about calls, reducing missed alerts compared to traditional pagers and radios.
  • Customer support is responsive and helpful, resolving issues swiftly when contacted.
  • The app allows users to see who is responding and their locations, aiding coordination during emergencies.
  • Many users find the app easy to use and appreciate its utility in a volunteer firefighting context.
  • Continuous improvements and willingness of developers to accommodate specific organizational needs.
Cons
  • Frequent bugs and glitches, including crashing after updates, requiring reinstalls or device restarts to fix.
  • Notification issues such as audible alerts that can't be fully controlled, missing notifications when using Android Auto, or notifications not working without strong internet connections.
  • Lack of important features like a smartwatch app, widgets, scheduled on/off duty times, and automatic login retention after updates.
  • App sometimes logs users out unexpectedly or places users off duty without their control, causing missed messages and calls.
  • Slow loading times and unreliable performance in rural areas due to dependence on strong internet connections.

works when it wants to. this last update made the app worse instead of better. cant get playback now or pertinent CAD info to load up

I hate this app. its hard to use. not consistent with info. you have to play hide and seek to find your call and navigating this app is overly complicated. much better apps out there like active 911. I wish we could switch.

It would be wonderful to be able to reset your schedule availability without having to individually delete every day, especially if you've set a range. Very frustrating oversight in an otherwise ok app.

Having some issues still, I have 2 accounts, one for volunteer firefighter, and another for mine rescue. Was last on the mine rescue account, we got a call for volunteer ff but it didn't sound the alarm and switch accounts for the call. typically it would automatically switch over.

Been a while since the update. Still trash, interface is overly complicated, map is slow to update user locations, if it updates at all. members that hit responding don't always show up. Whoever thought status updates needed emoji reacts should be let go. It's a first responder app not Facebook. This app needs to roll back to the previous iteration, a simple functional interface. we've given time to fix it and it's still unstable across members in my dept.

in another stroke of absolute genius from the who's responding team, apparently the "mute" button now does not mean mute, its just a sharp irritating sound instead of your usual alert. What an idiotic feature, if they keep making these "improvements" I'm going back to a pager.

too many features to make it simple to navigate. especially for people who dont spend all their time on their phone.

terrible since update, this app used to be really good. the most recent update really lets it down. its clunky which is not what you want at 3am trying to work out what kind of emergency you are heading to. it constantly overruns telling for 4 hours after a call how many are headed to the hall. the PTT alert is non stop in my notifications. can we just remove the update the new features arent worth loosing its core usability.

The new version of this app really missed the mark. Lots of new features for departments who utilize it for scheduling, reporting, record keeping, and apparatus tracking, but it has over complicated the simple emergency response features. Receiving emergency alerts opens up pop-up screens and overcrowded displays. The old version of the home screen was far more efficient and effective. Far too many buttons to press and menus to navigate to trigger a response action or see important info.
