Elementary Fractions: Learning While Cutting Pizza. Learn, solve, and master through games.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Fractions are the unit where children first encounter "numbers with two digits."

Therefore, it is easy to read 3/4 as '3' and '4' separately, or to think that 1/8 is greater than 1/3.

'Let's Study Fractions' helps children overcome this hurdle through pictures and hands-on activities.

■ Learning Fractions — Step 6: Hands-on

1) What are Fractions? Change the number of pieces, and pressing and coloring the pieces will change the fraction accordingly.

2) Reading and Writing: Point out the order to read the denominator first.

3) Size Comparison: Place two fractions side by side with a stick and compare them visually.

4) Fractions of the Same Size: Show why 1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6 are the same size using length, and learn simplification and finding common denominators.

5) Proper Fractions, Improper Fractions, and Mixed Numbers: If you increase the numerator beyond 1, the board becomes two.

6) Addition and Subtraction: Divide cases into when the denominators are the same and when they are different, and show the process of finding a common denominator step-by-step.

The explanation is created by inputting the numbers currently on the screen. If you change the values, the explanation changes as well.

Common pitfalls (such as not adding denominators together) are highlighted separately in yellow boxes.

■ Problem Solving — Basics · Comparison · Calculation

Reading pictures, size comparison, fractions of the same size, improper fractions ↔ mixed numbers, addition and subtraction, and simplification. You can choose between multiple-choice and open-ended questions (direct input of numerator and denominator).

If you get it wrong, it provides the correct answer along with a one-line explanation of "why."

■ 3 Games

· Fraction Challenge — Fill as many as possible within 30 seconds

· Fraction Survival — The faster you get it right, the more time you fill up

· Pizza Shop — When a customer says, "Give me a 3/4 pizza!", you choose how many slices to cut the pizza into and press the slices into the slots.

Sometimes the ordered denominator is not available among the available slices. Even if you fill 1/2 into 4 out of 8 slices, it is still considered correct.

It is a game where you try to create fractions rather than just reading them.

■ Things That Make You Want to Keep Playing

Daily missions (10 questions), consecutive attendance records, levels and titles, 20 types of character draws,

Monthly season rankings and past season Hall of Fame.

You can exchange collected coins for food items that appear in the questions — Pizza, Chocolate, Watermelon, Cake, Cookies, Pancakes.

There are 10 different backgrounds, ranging from a pizza shop to the ocean floor and a snow village.

(The initial screen for learning fractions always features plain shapes. This is to help you clearly grasp the concepts from the start.)
