User Reviews

Users generally praise Fddb for its intuitive design, robust tracking features, helpful support, and affordable pricing. However, repeated concerns center on data quality in the database (inaccurate/missing items, hard edits), feature removals and regressions after updates, and privacy concerns around mandatory accounts. AI features are seen as promising but unreliable or disruptive, with several reports of scanning issues after AI changes. Some users also want easier navigation and more customization. Despite these issues, many reviews note ongoing improvements and value.
Pros
  • Intuitive, simple, uncluttered design that makes tracking easy.
  • Strong customer support and good value for money (responsive help, affordable premium).
  • Rich feature set for tracking (macros tuning, recipes, barcode/label scanning).
  • Lean, to-the-point UX with minimal gamification and fast task flow.
  • Regular updates improving UI and stability, with ongoing refinements.
Cons
  • Data quality issues in the database (missing items, wrong values, hard to edit).
  • Removals of useful features and usability regressions after updates (e.g., 100 g input, plate/unit changes).
  • Requires creating an account / privacy concerns about personal data.
  • AI-related features are inconsistent or disruptive (inaccurate micronutrients, scanning/regression after AI updates).
  • Navigation/search can be fiddly (many clicks, small fonts, limited customization).
Recent reviews
Great app! Simple nutrition tracking without the gamification nonsense, just open, log, and you're done. Switched over from Yazio because I wanted something no-frills that just tracks nutrition. Glad I found Fddb!

App is good though some parts are still displayed in German (optional portion sizes for example). The reason for only 3 stars is that their food database is pretty bad. You need to manually add almost every product. They just pumped AI into this too but wish they'd add regular OCR or AI OCR to automatically fill in nutrient details from a photo of the label. Also if the barcode is not recognised during search and people click on add, why scan the barcode again?
