User Reviews

Users appreciate Dementia/Digital Diary/Clock for its high customization, effective calendar syncing, and free, ad-free support for dementia patients and caregivers. It extends the life of older devices and helps reduce confusion with clear date and event displays. However, several reviews mention a steep learning curve in setup, occasional issues with calendar events and syncing, difficulty exiting the app once set as home, and limited in-app guidance. Despite these, it is highly valued for improving daily life and communication for dementia sufferers and their families.
Pros
  • Highly customizable with numerous configuration options to tailor the display and notifications.
  • Works well on older or less powerful devices like tablets or e-ink readers, extending their usability.
  • Syncs effectively with Google Calendar for shared event updates among family members.
  • Provides vital support for dementia patients by displaying date, time, reminders, and events to reduce confusion and increase independence.
  • Free of charge with no ads, making it accessible to a wide range of users and caregivers.
Cons
  • Initial setup and configuration can be complex and not very intuitive, requiring persistence to learn.
  • Some users experienced issues with calendar repetition events and syncing only working when selecting all calendars.
  • The app's 'Home Application' mode can lock the device into the app, making it difficult to return to the standard home screen.
  • Limited documentation or accessible help within the app; instructions can be sparse or hard to find.
  • Certain features like image/audio integration or some font/color settings are hard to use or incomplete.

Superb app. Very well written with a high level of configuration. I ended up just creating a google accout for a calendar and sharing that logon around the family. We put in an entry so it pops up for mum to see. I reused an old hudl2 tablet which had a knackered battery anyway. After 2 years I removed the battery + just run on mains. . I Mounted in a wooden frame. Suggest users remove as much software from their tablet as possible so the app can work to it's best.

Excellent free app with tons of customization. I set up on an e-ink tablet. Highly recommend! Example I have date at very top right. Then I have a blue background for all day events in a bar above the Day in green in large font. Under that I have time in even larger font. Then I have 3 rows of timed events that stay until they pass. For active event the background turn red in a banner. Customized to use the notification timing instead of event timing for more heads up.
