Estuary GO!

In 2022, Estuary was established out of Downtown Hope to develop an approach that equips the Church to seek the flourishing of cultural estuaries through the beauty, goodness, and truth of Jesus Christ.
Just as ecological estuaries are volatile yet rich with nutrients that give rise to new life and flourishing, cultural estuaries represent the spaces beyond church walls where new life can emerge. These are the places where Jesus sends His followers as instruments to bring renewal through the beauty, goodness, and truth of the gospel.

In our Western context, however, these cultural estuaries are often marked by religious disenchantment. Nearly 80% of our friends, neighbors, and coworkers no longer view the Church or the Christian faith as places where they might discover answers to the deepest longings and questions of the human condition.

Since its founding, Estuary has functioned as a missional incubator—bringing to life new initiatives prompted by the Holy Spirit, and equipping the Body of Christ to faithfully pursue the flourishing of communities among the cultural estuaries beyond church walls. As these initiatives are nurtured and God causes them to grow, new patterns emerge for how the Western Church might exist and engage the world.

Among its flagship initiatives are Awaken, a unified vision across churches for renewal and awakening through prayer and worship; Seminary Without Walls, a practical training program for lay leaders that integrates theology with hands-on ministry skills; and the Pastors Prayer Network, which gathers pastors across denominational lines to seek unity across churches through prayer.

As these initiatives are nurtured and God causes them to grow, new patterns emerge for how the Western Church might be activated to seek the flourishing of communities beyond their walls through the beauty, goodness, and truth of the gospel.
