“I am not in control of my shipments once they leave my facility.” This is the most common problem statement with logistics service providers and shippers, even if they are running a next-generation TMS like OTM. TMS can optimize planning and routing, it is relatively restricted when it comes to recording and reporting activities in real time in the field, for example, how much has been collected ', was the delivery completed? Or did the driver miss a delivery ?, How much has been delivered ?, Was there a shortage or damage ?, What are the timestamps for the arrival and departure of the driver ?, etc. Events negatively impact customer service levels and increase logistics costs, viz. SLA failures, detention charges, shortage penalties, etc.
GPS apps only provide the location of the shipment and using on-board computers can be quite expensive. A cost-effective approach to overcoming these challenges is to leverage the ubiquitous smartphone, given the dexterity and skill of most users today, with a mobile app. ILM, designed by Inspirage, is a next-generation mobile app that is designed to work with Oracle's best-in-class Transportation Management System (TMS) OTM. It has been configured for various use cases, for example a driver-dispatcher, carrier, fleet coordinator interaction, etc. Communication with OTM is done through the use of lightweight REST APIs designed to work with OTM.
The current version has some cool features like: fleet / non-fleet driver and carrier roles along with map engine integrations like Google Maps and Here Maps. Some recently developed features include container update and validation to ISO 6346 standard. Newly added notification enabled automatic shipment synchronization based on canceled shipments / modified stops helps end user to get accurate information about their trip.
