National Telecom Volunteer

Please note that this application does not represent any government entity and the developer is executing this pilot in his private capacity. This application is developed as a pilot program to capture ground-level signal strength and related parameters through crowd-sourcing. The developer is working with the Department of Telecommunications and can be reached at dir1[at]]broadbandmission[dot]gov[dot]in.

This application will be installed by users as volunteers to share the mobile signal strengths and technology received by their mobile phones, along with the location.

What is the data captured?
1. Precise location of the user both in the foreground and the background (if permitted).

2. Mobile signal parameters:
(a) Name of telecom operator
(b) Signal strength
(c) Telecom technology(2G/3G/4G/5G)
(d) Mobile base station along with its technical parameters (cell id, base station identity code, network id etc.)

3. Data network parameters
(a) Downstream bandwidth (kbps)
(b) Upstream bandwidth (kbps)
(c) Interface Name
(d) Transport type (Wi-Fi or mobile data)

4 Mobile phone specifications: Brand, model & other specifications etc.

IMPORTANT Please be sure that no parameter related to your identity is captured. The data captured can never be tracked back to your identity ever.


What is in for the user?
1. See all the telecom signals available on your mobile phone: telecom operator name, technology(2G/3G/4G/5G), signal strength in dBm & signal quality (GREAT, GOOD, MODERATE, POOR)

2. Volunteer to share your telecom-related data on your mobile phone which can help plan the measures that need to be taken to provide telecom coverage in every nook and corner of the country. The data collected by this mobile application can become the foundation for all kinds of telecom-related data analysis in the future.
