Review summary

Everdell's Android app is praised for faithfully recreating the beloved board game with great graphics, smooth animations, and useful solo and challenge modes. However, multiple users highlight major issues with the UI, especially on smaller phone screens, including tiny text and small interactive elements requiring scrolling and zooming. A critical flaw across reviews is the lack of any undo or confirmation option, making accidental moves frequent and frustrating. Mixed with connection problems in asynchronous play and missing expansions, users find the app enjoyable but demanding significant improvements, particularly in usability and stability.
Pros
  • Faithful and great digital adaptation of the physical Everdell board game.
  • Graphics and animations are visually appealing and smooth, enhancing the game experience.
  • Includes challenge modes and solo play against AI, allowing versatile gameplay options.
  • Good for playing when unable to play with others in person or to practice on the go.
Cons
  • Lack of an undo or confirmation button leads to accidental actions that cannot be reversed, causing gameplay frustration.
  • Interface is difficult on small phone screens due to small text, UI elements, and need for frequent scrolling and zooming.
  • Dragging to move cards and also to navigate the screen causes mistaps and unintentional plays.
  • Connection issues during asynchronous multiplayer games requiring app restarts.
  • No expansions currently available in the app, limiting content variety and causing repetitiveness.

Be certain you want this game before buying. I bought it and played part way through the tutorial (10 minutes) and after quickly seeing that the game does not play well on a phone due to the large size of the game, I figured I'd ask to return the game. I was rejected a return without actually playing a single game, only part of the tutorial. So again, only buy this if you're comfortable with the game - play the physical game first so you already know the game. ALL SALES ARE FINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great implementation of the game. Would be 5 stars, but -1 due to constant connection issues while playing asynchronous. Must restart app multiple times to play your turn. Another -1 since you can't undo your turn, and with such small UI, it's easy to misclick. Otherwise great adaptation.

Pretty good, I love the game and it's nice to be able to get a game in when I cant play with live people. It could definately use a turn end confirmation and an undo option, I have multiple times tapped discard 3 cards to get 3 resouces but got the one berry and card location instead, ouch! Also I would love to have the expansions, any idea when we might get those for the app? Thank you for the game.

I really enjoy this digital adaptation. My son just turned one so it's great to not have to worry about pulling out all of the little pieces with him around. The game runs smooth and I really enjoy the Challenge mode that is included! As an owner of the Physical Complete Collection, I look forward to seeing the expansions make it to digital as well.

Graphics look really good, which is a plus, but they're so good that my phone overheats. I shouldn't be performance limited on a game that can be played on paper. And as others mentioned, the interface is incredibly unforgiving. Screen real estate is dominated by the beautiful graphics making game text tiny- forcing scrolls and zooms to interact- and the lack of action confirmation makes it very easy to get locked into an accidental mistap.

Great experience. My family and I all love this game! I would recommend an update for playing Miner Mole, Chip Sweep, Doctor, Wood Carver, and Monk. It's a great annoyance when I think I've selected a production to copy or I accidently press on the wrong part of the screen, the game moves on to the next turn without me using the card's power. I think a warning box (like when ending a season) would resolve this issue anytime the game sees a card's power is being skipped. Thank you.

This board game is my favorite, so it's nice that it's been formatted as an app! The challenges are fun, and solo mode is solid. I haven't tried anything else yet. I do wish there was a confirmation button before fully taking your action. I've accidentally placed workers in the wrong location, and wanted to undo or fix it, but without a confirmation button it just moves on. Otherwise, 5 stars.

This is a very good implementation of the game. This would be a 5 star review if not for 1 UI/UX issue that is a constant frustration that causes less than ideal play or loss of points. The game NEEDS a "confirm" or "end turn" button, with the possibility to undo, with logic to gate before secrets (like new card reveals). The way that you have to swipe around the interface to see all of the areas periodically promotes an accidental play, with no recourse.

Nice interface, good graphics, runs smoothly. Haven't had too many issues with the drag and drop as mentioned in other reviews yet. I like the solo challenges and various game modes. Would recommend if you like the physical game and want to practice/have the same experience on the go. It can be a little challenging to read cards / see details when playing on a phone though.

If you like Everdell in ita board game version, this definitely gives you a great mobile experience. I loved the animated critter meeples, and I love that you can play a solo game against ai. You should know that it has no expansions, just base version. Also, take your time with the figure placement, the glowing helps to see if they're in the right place, but sometimes it doesn't take. Also, it's a big game for a phone, but zooming has worked well.
