Review summary

Users appreciate Solid Starts for its detailed, science-backed baby food information, helpful serving tips, and effective food tracking features. However, many express frustration over the sudden transition to an expensive subscription model without adequate notice, aggressive paywalls restricting free access, frequent app crashes, and limited customization. The app's customer service is noted as responsive, but overall usability is hindered by bugs and high costs, making it less viable for some parents despite its valuable content.

Upon trying the 7-Day trial, I was told that I would be notified a day in advance before I was charged for a subscription. I did not get that notification. When I went in to check I was charged for a full year subscription. This is pretty frustrating because I don't use this app. Unfortunately it just doesn't work for my lifestyle. I just found this not useful for me personally. It is frustrating getting stiffed with a yearly subscription for an app I do not use.

I used this app for my firstborn, and it was great. I bought the subscription, which was affordable at the time, 2 years ago ($10 for a year). Now that I want to use it for my second born, the price is 10x what it was. Although I absolutely loved using it, for me, it is not worth the price to only use it for about 6-8 months when my son begins to eat solids.

When this app had a free food database, I loved using it. Without warning, you now must pay for even that. Apparently the promise that that part of the app would always be free was not followed through on. I understand wanting to have more money to expand what you offer, but showing how to cut foods up for different ages was really helpful and will be missed by those who can't afford to pay. **will update review when I see the free portion available again**

Good while it lasted, but after a few months it started telling me I only have a few free food searches left. I didn't know when I downloaded the app that it would only allow so many free searches. The information on this app was very useful, but I am not able to spend that much on an app subscription. I understand apps need to earn money somehow, but it's frustrating looking for basic guidance for how to feed my child and everywhere I look just being another money grab on well-meaning parents.

If you don't buy a subscription, you can essentially do nothing...and if you accidently tap almost anywhere the subscription pop up appears. The subscription is also expensive. Was excited...but now disappointed. I advise the creators to make sure the free version has more accessible in it that would help draw people into purchasing a subscription (think huckleberry free vs. Paid.) And to find a different way to advertise things as member only than a giant pop up that takes up the whole screen.

Suddenly requires everything to be paid for and wasn't given notice of it. It's been a good app and was nice to have when my children were just learning foods. My daughter is about to be out of this stage soon but the low stars is because every time there's a big change with the app there is never a notice on it.

Became paid without any notice Edit after response- my issue is not that it became paid, it's that there was no notice at all. I believe your content is actually worth paying for. I would have signed up during your black Friday sale. This feels very reminiscent of when snoo all of a sudden made their app paid for, for features that were the promised with the original app. I have downloaded BLW meals app and it is the same content without a paywall. Highly recommend!

Was a great simple resource for showing how to serve various items at different stages, then they changed it to no longer have any free features. If I'm going to pay $100 a year or $20 a month for a service, I'm going to expect a lot more features than what this app offers and a lot less aggressive popups.

The app itself is okay, it doesn't auto populate some foods when searching which would make things easier. The suggestions for how to prepare foods are good and the images and videos helpful. But to completely remove the free access without warning is terrible, so I'm uninstalling this app and will move to another app that provides the same service for free. Shame on the devs for changing to a paid model without warning.

It'd be an amazing app if a subscription wasn't either 20$ a month or 100$ for a year just to see the basic stuff. When I first downloaded the app it seemed I'd be able to access the basic things of just seeing what foods for what ages and the notes of how best to serve, but now it's blocking me saying I need to pay to be able to access it. Nice idea for an app but unfortunately just ain't worth 20$ a month that I need to spend on my baby.
