OpenManage Mobile

Dell OpenManage Mobile now supports the latest iDRAC 17G Servers

Features & Capabilities

Dell OpenManage Mobile (OMM) is a powerful Chrome extension designed to help IT administrators securely manage and troubleshoot Dell PowerEdge servers and MX7000 modular chassis from any mobile device. Compatible with iDRAC7 and later, OMM supports both remote management over the network and at-the-server or chassis access using Bluetooth Low Energy and Wi-Fi.

One of its standout features is the use of Augmented Reality (AR) to quickly monitor MX7000 chassis health and device status by simply aiming your device's camera. OMM provides proactive alert notifications, hardware and firmware inventory details, system logs, and the ability to power on, shut down, or reboot servers remotely. Additional capabilities include bare metal configuration, secure virtual console access via third-party apps, and context-relevant video remediation guides, making server and chassis management more efficient and less dependent on physical crash carts.

For IT professionals managing Dell infrastructure, OpenManage Mobile streamlines operations and enhances data center mobility and responsiveness, all from the convenience of a mobile device.

User Reviews

Users find OpenManage Mobile useful for server information access and appreciate its ad-free and simple interface. However, multiple reviews report frequent crashes, very slow load times, missing QR code scanning functionality, and problems saving or managing server configurations. Compatibility with certain iDRAC features and versions is also inconsistent, leading to user frustration. Despite its potential, these issues significantly impact usability and reliability.
Pros
  • Provides useful server information and inventory details.
  • Ad-free user experience.
  • Allows configuration and management of servers without physical access (e.g., no need for crash cart).
  • Simple and clean layout.
Cons
  • Frequent app crashes and instability reported by multiple users.
  • Slow performance, with pages and functions taking several minutes to load.
  • Lack of features such as QR code scanning despite server instructions to use it.
  • Issues with saving or remembering server information; data is lost when app is closed.
  • Limited or problematic support for certain iDRAC features such as IP configuration, Quick Sync NFC, and older iDRAC versions.

Used to work great but now will not connect to my PowerEdge T430 server's iDRAC8 interface. I have verified that the iDRAC web server is enabled, and that the port number (443) matches the iDRAC UI and OpenManage Mobile. I am able to connect to the iDRAC via IP address in a web browser on my Android device, but not through the OMM app using the same IP address. Didappointed, as when the app used to work it was convenient to remote start my server from the app. Please fix this Dell!
