User Reviews

Users praise Safelog Pilot Logbook for its comprehensive logbook features, configurability, and responsiveness of the company. However, the Android app is often criticized for frequent crashes, outdated interface, slow and intrusive syncing, and difficulties with data import/export. Several reviewers report problems with usability including time zone inconsistencies and inability to remove crew members once added. While the desktop and iOS versions work better, the Android experience currently lacks stability and user friendliness, diminishing satisfaction despite the app's strong core functionality.
Pros
  • The logbook itself is comprehensive and well thought out, catering well to military and airline pilots.
  • The app syncs to the server and is functional for adding data to the logbook when used alongside other platforms (e.g., desktop or iOS).
  • The company is responsive to user questions and feedback.
  • Highly configurable with features such as storing signatures and scanned documents.
  • More fairly priced and better than many alternatives in the pilot logbook app market.
Cons
  • The Android version is unstable and prone to frequent crashes, especially when entering flight times or using filters.
  • The app interface on Android is dated, not user-friendly, and requires significant improvement including simplification and bug fixes.
  • Synchronization issues exist, such as slow updates and constant syncing after every field entry, affecting usability.
  • Manual corrections are often needed due to inconsistent handling of time zones (UTC vs local) and imported data inaccuracies.
  • Export functionality is limited, locking users into the system without a usable way to export logbook data for other platforms.

Imports from Roster buster do not include pilot name, automatically calculate day or night time, nor do they allow for automatically sorting the flight time between PIC, multi etc. It it possible to reformat the data after import, but this requires manual imput. If you wan to use safelog to import flight time from Roster buster, then you should look elsewhere. When I requested a refund for my subscription which was used for less than 1 day, they refused citing their terms and conditions.

The logbook itself is fantastic. The Android interface is very dated and badly needs a rewrite. The app is somewhat buggy and does crash if you leave it open for long periods of time. It's functional for adding data to your logbook and syncing to the server. As long as Android isn't your sole method of interfacing with SafeLog, then it's okay.
