Plants (scientific name: Plantae) are a major group of living organisms, such as trees, flowers, herbs, shrubs, weeds, and ferns.
Plants are divided into: seed plants, vascular plants, ferns and fern-like plants.

A study published in 2011 estimated the number of plant species on the globe at about 8.7 million species, of which 6.5 million species are on land and 2.2 million are in the sea.
Until 2004, the number of plant species that had been distinguished and identified was 287,655 plant species, of which 258,650 were flowering and 15,000 nonvascular. The most important feature of plants is that they are autotrophic, and therefore they provide food for themselves, herbivores and humans, making them the most important elements of the food cycle in nature. Plants can convert the sun's energy into the form of chemical energy in carbohydrates by photosynthesis within the chloroplasts in plant cells.
Plants cover most of the Earth's surface, and they can live in all environments, and they provide us with oxygen when they make their own food, which is food for other creatures, and they release water vapor that works to soften the atmosphere.
