Its architecture performs HTML rendering on cloud servers while the device handles display rasterization, keeping the client lightweight and making web app performance less dependent on device hardware.

The app is primarily distributed as a pre-installed app by phone manufacturers and is available on Google Play for updates. Users without a pre-installed version may need a paid subscription. Puffin Cloud Phone does not support Adobe Flash, and its servers are located in the United States and Singapore, so regional content restrictions may apply. Puffin services may also be blocked in some countries and educational institutions.
