User Reviews

Multiverse offers a novel way to experience Burning Man virtually, with active developer updates and immersive art exploration that users appreciate. However, many encounter problems with bugs, crashes, unclear payment models, limited avatar options, and lack of social features, which hinder overall enjoyment. The app's control scheme and UI have usability issues, especially on Android and tablets, impacting accessibility. Despite its shortcomings, users recognize the hard work behind this ambitious project and hope for continuous improvement.
Pros
  • The app provides a unique virtual experience of the Burning Man event, allowing users to explore art installations and the playa environment from home.
  • The developers are actively updating the app frequently, adding new features and improvements almost daily.
  • Users appreciate the effort and dedication to creating a large-scale immersive virtual environment in a short time frame.
  • The app brings nostalgic feelings of Burning Man and offers some interaction elements during scheduled events.
  • The concept of mobile VR-like interaction using device movement for looking around is innovative and engaging for some users.
Cons
  • The app has numerous bugs, crashes, and performance issues, especially on Android devices, making it frustrating to use.
  • The paywall and in-app cost are not clearly communicated, causing confusion and dissatisfaction about pricing and refunds.
  • The avatar customization is very limited, only providing two gender options with stereotypical fashion, which users find outdated and non-inclusive.
  • There is a lack of online interaction, chat features, or multiplayer functionality, limiting social experiences and causing isolation in the virtual environment.
  • Controls and UI are unintuitive and difficult to navigate, including problematic birth date selection, and issues with device orientation leading to poor viewing angles.

UPDATE: AND WE'RE DOING IT AGAIN! This is amazing. There's glitchy things, and there's issues, but it's art. From hanging out with strangers to wandering around looking at art, this is the closest I've been to home this year.

The Temple and some art were very nice. Sadly there was no real BM feeling - either I was alone or no one was talking back... for scheduled events it seems to work. Luckily AltspaceVR/BRCvr released a Mac client to have some real BM vibes for free... or of course in 3D on the Oculus Quest. I add a positive notion and a star: it is constantly updated so in the end it was worth the donation.
