Review summary

Users largely praise Chessbook as an excellent openings trainer and a strong learning tool, helping build a repertoire and highlight common moves. It’s widely described as useful, easy to use, and well-built, with positive notes about its SRS-based practice. However, multiple reviews flag reliability concerns: the app is sometimes buggy and hard to keep updated, subscription prompts can occur even for paying users, and the mobile UI has limitations (landscape mode, tablet sizing, and swipe issues). Improvements in stability and polish would enhance the experience.
Pros
  • Excellent openings trainer and repertoire builder; shows common moves, expected responses, and prioritizes lines.
  • Educational and effective for learning chess tactics and strategies; widely praised as one of the best learning apps.
  • Useful, easy to use and well-built.
  • Uses spaced repetition (SRS) to reinforce openings.
Cons
  • Buggy and glitchy app with frequent issues and update needs.
  • Premium-subscription issues where the app asks for premium despite having access.
  • UI/UX limitations on mobile/tablet: lack of landscape mode, small portrait UI, and some swipe issues.

The app is great but the problem is the engine evaluation after 10+ moves , it's not consistent and sometimes completely wrong also it fails to tell which are the best moves available to me in the position I reach after say 13 moves
