Review summary

ALTER EGO COMPLEX is praised for its beautiful art, haunting soundtrack, and deep emotional story that expands on Es's character from the original game. Fans appreciate the contemplative narrative and atmospheric experience. However, many reviewers find the game short with slow pacing and tedious reading mechanics. The mini games receive mixed feedback, often described as clunky, and some feel the game lacks interactive depth. Despite being worthwhile for invested players, the game's limited content and price raise concerns for some users.
Pros
  • Beautiful and immersive story that deeply explores the character Es, providing emotional depth and background to the original Alter Ego game.
  • High-quality art and animation with an appealing visual style that remains consistent with the first game, combined with a fitting and haunting soundtrack.
  • Well-crafted atmosphere that resonates with fans of the original game, creating a contemplative and thoughtful experience.
  • The game offers insightful narrative elements, especially for players who have completed the first Alter Ego and are invested in Es's character.
  • Mini games and interactive elements, while simple, add a layer of engagement for some players and complement the narrative.
Cons
  • The game is too short, leaving many players wanting more content and feeling the experience is incomplete or lacking in depth.
  • The pacing is slow and reading sections can be tedious, with excessive tapping/clicking on text bubbles which some players find annoying.
  • Mini games are considered clunky or frustrating by some, detracting from the overall enjoyment and breaking immersion.
  • Some players feel the game lacks meaningful gameplay improvements or interactivity, with limited choices and repetitive reading that hampers engagement.
  • The price point is seen as high given the limited length and content of the game, leading some to question its value.

Beautifully crafted story, I don't remember how I found Caramel Column and their games however I'm thrilled that I was able to experience this. The emotions felt for Es is immensely different in a good way than many other stories I've read and played.

I really like alter ego so I downloaded this as well, it's interesting and I want to know more about Es but there's not a lot. Very short.
