🔒 Firewall (Local VPN)
Vigilant One includes an on-device firewall that blocks unwanted network connections from apps you choose. To inspect traffic without root, the firewall uses Android's VpnService API to create a local VPN tunnel. No traffic is routed to external servers.

Vigilant One uses Android's AccessibilityService API to power three core security features. No accessibility data is transmitted off your device.

1. App Lock
The App Lock feature uses the Accessibility Service to monitor which app is currently in the foreground. When you navigate to a protected app, Vigilant One immediately displays an authentication screen (PIN, pattern, or biometric). This is the only way to reliably intercept foreground app transitions without requiring root access. The service reads window state change events only — it does not read screen content, keystrokes, or personal data.

2. Download Monitoring (Malware Scanner)
To detect downloads from browsers, messaging apps, and cloud storage apps (such as Chrome, WhatsApp, Telegram, Google Drive, and others), the Malware Scanner uses the Accessibility Service to observe download-related notifications and UI events. When a high-risk file type (e.g., .apk, .zip, .exe) is detected, the app initiates a local malware scan. This feature requires accessibility access because Android does not provide a system-level API for monitoring downloads from third-party apps. The service reads notification text and visible UI content only — it does not capture passwords, messages, or other personal content.
