Snoozing is easy because switching off an alarm takes one thumb and no thought. Rouse makes it take more.

When a Rouse alarm goes off, there is no snooze button waiting for you. There is a mission. Finish it and the alarm stops. That is the whole idea: by the time you have walked thirty steps or worked out 47 + 68, you are awake, standing, and considerably less likely to get back into bed.

WHAT STOPS THE ALARM

• Steps — walk a number of steps you choose. Counted by your phone's motion sensor.
• Shake — shake the phone until the meter fills.
• Maths — solve arithmetic problems. You pick the difficulty.
• Typing — type out a phrase. Write your own, in your own words.
• Memory — repeat a pattern back.

Set a different mission for each alarm — a gentle one for weekends, a demanding one for the day you keep sleeping through.

EMERGENCY STOP, ALWAYS

Every alarm has an always-available emergency stop that dismisses it without the mission after a clear confirmation/hold. It is free, never behind payment, and Rouse Pro never sells mission skips.

STREAKS THAT COUNT MORNINGS, NOT DAYS

Rouse records every morning you got up, and a streak grid on your home screen shows the run at a glance. Streaks are built from the day as you lived it — your timezone, your chosen day-start hour — so travelling or a clock change does not wipe a run you earned.

• Core alarms need no account and work offline.
• No ads. Not on the free tier, not on any tier.
• Optional Google-account backup restores scrubbed history across devices.
• Labels, notes, your written reason and raw sensor readings are never uploaded.
• No camera, no microphone, no location, no reading your other apps.

Raw step/motion signals are processed only on-device. A completed mission's final count and outcome stay in history and can enter optional encrypted backup; the backup is disclosed as Fitness info. Backup, Analytics and Crashlytics are off until you choose them.

The free version is a complete alarm clock: unlimited alarms, every mission type, streak tracking and the home-screen widget. Rouse Pro adds two-year history, more streak freezes, adaptive mission difficulty and every alarm tone on your device. It does not unlock a way to skip missions, and it does not remove ads, because there are none.

ABOUT RELIABILITY, HONESTLY

Rouse uses Android's alarm clock APIs and does everything an app can to fire on time, including telling you afterwards if an alarm was missed. But no app controls your phone's battery manager, and some manufacturers restrict background apps aggressively. Rouse includes a setup guide for your device. If missing an alarm would be genuinely serious — a flight, medication, a shift — set a second alarm on another device.

We also will not claim Rouse is impossible to get around. Android gives no app the power to lock you out of your own phone. You can leave, you can uninstall, you can shake your way through. Rouse is built for people who want to be stopped, not for people who need to be forced.

AN ALARM CLOCK, NOT A FITNESS TRACKER

Rouse reads step activity only to complete a step mission. It gives no medical, health, sleep or exercise advice, and offers no daily fitness totals, calories or Health Connect. The final mission count can enter optional encrypted backup and is disclosed as Fitness info. Stop if you feel pain or dizziness; non-physical missions are always available. Never use the app while driving.

Rouse Pro is optional. Plans are shown in the app with the exact price, term and renewal frequency before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled, and a free trial becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends. Cancel any time in the Play Store under Subscriptions.
