"Three Hundred Poems of the Tang Dynasty" was originally compiled as a home school textbook for children to learn poetry. However, because the editor took advantage of the ease of recitation of "Poems of a Thousand Families", the book became "popular throughout the country and almost every home had a copy of it" soon after it came out. It is regarded as the first choice for introductory readings of Tang poetry and has been influential to this day.
Three Hundred Tang Poems provides appreciation and analysis of ancient poetry and poetry, and is a must-read model for many students.
Three Hundred Tang Poems contains 77 poems, basically arranged according to five-character ancient poems, seven-character ancient poems, five-character rhymed poems, seven-character rhymed poems, five-character quatrains, seven-character quatrains, and Yuefu poems. Most of the selected poems are descriptive. The works of trivial matters of life and personal feelings reflect the social life style of the Tang Dynasty, and many of them are famous poems in the Tang Dynasty. It includes annotations, focusing on allusions; there are also comments, pointing out the practice, explaining the intention, and criticizing the workmanship. Tang poetry, with its unique artistic achievements, has not only been continuously studied by poetry critics of the past dynasties, but also loved by the majority of people. In order to meet the appreciation needs of ordinary people, people have compiled anthologies of popular Tang poems since the Song and Ming Dynasties. The earliest extant one is "Poems of a Thousand Families" written by Xie Fangde of the Song Dynasty and Wang Xiang of the Ming Dynasty. Although this book is a collection of poems from the Tang and Song Dynasties, it focuses on the Tang Dynasty and is arranged according to the style. It contains 226 poems from 123 poets, all of which are five or seven-character rhymes. Most of the selected works are easy to understand, rich in poetic flavor, full of interest, and beneficial to beginners, so they became popular all over the country after publication. However, due to poor selection, improper style, and incomplete poetry, this book also has obvious shortcomings.
