BC Prehap App

The BC Prehab App brings evidence-informed perioperative care to the point of care — and now to the patient. Brought to you by the BC Prehab Faculty, it turns complex hold-and-continue decisions, investigation ordering, and surgical preparation into clear, date-specific plans.

Choose your mode when you open the app. Providers get the full clinical toolkit; patients get a guided path to their surgery date.

The app does not replace clinical judgement or individualised assessment. It is a decision-support reference for healthcare professionals, and a general information resource for patients.

FOR PROVIDERS

- Search hundreds of brand-name and generic medications for perioperative guidance: continue, hold, or individualize.
- Enter a surgical date and receive an exact calendar-based timeline.
- Work the PRATT investigation picker (PCADS Appendix B): select the surgery and patient factors, and get a tailored set of recommended tests with verbatim citations and rationale.
- Use interactive prehab content built on validated instruments — STOP-Bang, PHQ-9, GAD-7 and more — scored as you answer, with branching algorithms that resolve to guideline recommendations.
- Scan a prescription label or medication list with ScanRx (Beta) to surface matching database entries for clinician confirmation.

BUILT FOR CLINICIANS, AND FOR PATIENTS

BC Prehab is designed for anesthesiologists, surgeons, internists, family physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and allied health professionals — and for the patients they prepare for surgery. Where guidance requires clinical judgment, entries are explicitly prefixed, so the boundary between reference information and individualised decision-making stays visible. Clinical text is reproduced verbatim from its source documents.

ALWAYS CURRENT

Medication guidance, clinical calculators, and the hospital directory refresh over the air, so corrections reach you without an app update. You control how often the app checks, or turn it off. It contacts only a public content source, and sends no personal or usage data.

PRIVACY & OFFLINE USE

BC Prehab uses no analytics and contains no third-party tracking SDKs. Your medication selections, checklist, notes, and dates are stored locally on your device. PDF exports are generated on-device and shared through your own email or messaging apps.

The one feature that uses a server is provider-to-patient sharing, and it is built so the server cannot read your plan: the data is encrypted on the provider's device before it is uploaded, unlocked only by a PIN entered on the patient's device, and automatically deleted after 24 hours. No account or sign-in is required anywhere in the app.

The app works fully offline after first launch. No connection is required to search medications, run the investigation picker, or generate exports.
