Backpack History

Our Backpack History app offers you thoroughly researched history, told like a historical novel, in the places where it actually took place. You follow the suggested route to the locations where you listen to the individual episodes of the connected story. You can do this at the historical sites themselves or from the comfort of your couch. In doing so, you unlock original historical documents in your digital backpack, allowing you to delve deeper into history. With a tap, you can switch between a current map and a historical map at any time. This shows you what the city looked like back then and how it has transformed since then – or you can simply enjoy the artfully crafted historical maps.

In the stories, you'll get to know people from the past. You'll experience how they shaped their times and how their times shaped them. We present history from unusual perspectives, including: What happened when a Munich innkeeper challenged the emperor and tried to conquer Munich? How did the penniless orphan Joseph Fraunhofer become one of the richest and most famous entrepreneurs and scientists of his time?

Our stories are not only captivating entertainment, but also a lasting learning experience. By telling our carefully researched stories vividly and connecting them with places and experiences, we make the information more tangible, understandable, and memorable.

Your adventure begins at any time of day or night, when it suits you, without fully booked appointments, waiting in line, or opening hours. You can pause the stories at any time and resume them with the touch of a button in the app—on-site or from home.
Give it a try, download your backpack, filled with fascinating history, to your smartphone, and set off.
