Foolscap: Notes and Cards

Foolscap turns photos of your handwritten notes into organised, searchable study material, on your own device.

Photograph a page and Foolscap reads the handwriting into clean, editable text. Each note is filed into folders you create, routed there by the labels you assign. Foolscap then writes flashcards and a short summary for every note, so a page of handwriting becomes something you can search, revise and test yourself on.

WHAT YOU CAN DO
• Capture. Photograph any handwritten page, write on screen with a pen, or type.
• Transcribe. Handwriting becomes searchable text you can correct.
• File. Your own folders, with labels and filing rules that do the sorting.
• Study. Auto-generated flashcards with spaced review.
• Test. Set a paper over any group of notes, answer it, and have it marked.
• Ask. Put a question to your own notes and get an answer sourced from them.
• Books. Import a long PDF or Word document along its own contents, one note per lesson.
• Listen. Have a note read aloud while you walk.
• Diagrams. Ask for an illustration of a concept, labelled as drawn by AI.
• Share and print. Notes as PDFs, and fold-over flashcards you can actually cut out.

MADE FOR PAPER
Three themes, Light, Warm Paper and Dark, six ink accents, and a type system built for reading: a display serif for titles, Inter for the interface, IBM Plex Mono for anything filed, and a handwriting face for your own labels.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Your notes live on your device. There are no ads, no trackers and no advertising profiles. To read your handwriting and write your study material, pages are sent to the Foolscap AI service, which is the only place your note content goes. There is no API key to find or paste, and every single request the app makes is listed in full, on device, in the network log.

OPTIONAL SIGN-IN AND SYNC
Want your notes on more than one device, or to read them in the web viewer? Sign in with Google and turn sync on, and your notes are stored privately in your own account, visible only to you. Sign-in is entirely optional and Foolscap works fully without an account. Diagnostics are standard crash and usage reporting, never your note content, and you can switch them off in Settings.
