Salamat

Salamat is a Chrome extension that displays real-time lightning strike observations from the Finnish Meteorological Institute on a detailed map of Finland. Updated every 5 minutes, the map supports panning and zooming, with base data provided by the National Land Survey of Finland. Users can view snapshots and share them via social media or archive them easily.

Upgrade with the Flash Unlocker to unlock extended features such as the Time Machine for viewing historical lightning data from 1998 onwards, the ability to track and save your location or other locations of interest, distance measurements from strikes, and customizable map templates and colors. The app interface automatically adapts between Finnish and English based on your device settings. Note that the extension is independent and not maintained by the Finnish Meteorological Institute but utilizes their open data API under relevant licensing.
