EV Charger Load Calc NEC 625

Size feeders and breakers for multi-EV chargers. Export the NEC 625 permit PDF.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

20 stalls of 40 A EVSE is 1,000 A at nameplate. With managed load it fits the existing 400 A service. This app shows both numbers side by side and prints the submittal.

Every multi-charger bid turns on one question: does the job need a service upgrade, or can load management make the existing service work? EVFeeder is built for that question. Drop in a bank of 2 to 50 chargers on a shared feeder and see full nameplate demand next to the managed maximum enforced by an EV energy management system (EVEMS, NEC 625.42(B) and 625.48). Pros say "load management"; the plan reviewer wants the numbers both ways. You get both.

What lands in the exported PDF:

- Load letter with the service headroom check
- The load-management (EVEMS) narrative, written out for the plan reviewer
- Branch table: every breaker and conductor at 125 percent continuous, with voltage drop per run
- Three-phase panel schedule, balanced automatically or assigned by hand
- Single-line diagram (also saves as a PNG for job notes or the GC)

That packet is the worksheet searchers ask for, and it is what you hand the AHJ with the permit application. EVFeeder prepares the submittal; it never claims to approve it.

How the numbers are sized:

- Branch circuits at 125 percent of continuous load
- Feeder and the EVEMS main sized to the managed maximum, not the nameplate sum
- Voltage drop on every run, with the feeder length you enter
- Based on NEC Article 625, with NEC 2023 and NEC 2026 labels on each result

Wondering if the panel can handle another charger? Run the numbers before you quote a service upgrade.

Everything runs on the device, so it works with no signal in a parking garage or an electrical room. Sites and presets stay local; delete them in Settings any time.

EVFeeder is a planning and submittal aid. It does not approve, stamp, or certify an installation. NEC is a registered trademark of the National Fire Protection Association; EVFeeder is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NFPA. Verify the EVSE manufacturer instructions, utility rules, local amendments, and your AHJ's requirements before installation.
