Operator Name Widget Android

Operator Name Widget

Displays the current network operator on your home screen widget.

Features & Capabilities

Operator Name Widget is a handy Chrome extension that displays the current network operator directly on your home screen widget. It offers two display modes: Text Mode shows the name of the active network operator, while Image Mode displays the network's logo automatically. Users can personalize the widget by adjusting alignment, display style, text color, and image size through an intuitive configuration screen accessible via the widget or menu.

Note that the extension does not support Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) due to network spectrum restrictions. If the app cannot identify your current network operator, it will display an "unknown network" logo, and users are encouraged to report missing logos via email for updates. This extension is ideal for users who want quick, visually customizable access to their network operator info directly on their device's interface.

User Reviews

Users appreciate Operator Name Widget for its ability to display mobile operator names and logos on home screens, especially with dual SIM support. However, common issues include failure to update operator info instantly when changing SIMs, compatibility problems with newer Android versions causing crashes or blank widgets, and lack of timely updates for new network logos. Some users also report UI inefficiencies and eSIM incompatibility. Despite these flaws, the app fulfills a unique purpose and is valued for its aesthetic appeal and functionality.
Pros
  • Uniquely displays mobile operator name and logo on the home screen, which many users appreciate.
  • Works well with dual SIM phones and allows operator info display for both SIM cards inside the app.
  • Provides a simple and aesthetic widget that enhances the phone screen with operator logos.
  • Users commend the app for fulfilling a niche need not met by many other apps.
  • Developers are responsive to logo requests and users see potential in the app's concept.
Cons
  • Widget often fails to update operator info automatically when switching SIMs, requiring manual app restart or phone reboot.
  • Compatibility issues with newer Android versions (e.g., Android 12/12L) cause the widget to stop displaying information or crash.
  • The app sometimes does not show logos or displays unknown network even after reports, indicating lack of updates for new operators.
  • Widgets occasionally occupy more screen space than necessary and offer limited customization options like font color changes causing crashes.
  • Issues with eSIM recognition and specific phone models lead to crashes or no display of operator info.

Not working. This seems to be an "empty" app. Not sure what is the point. Starting it or adding the widget results in nothing.

Nice idea that has the potential to get a much better rating ... What's the flaws: it uccupies unnecessarily two tiles even if it would fit fine onto one (also for the dual SIM combined widget) ... and as long as you can live with "unknown network" for years as the developer does not add new networks for years – even if you tell him month for month. And you can manually spoof the logo to an alien operator (that is not the working one) if you name your SIM card appropriately.
