Open Headunit

Open Headunit transforms an Android tablet or compatible headunit into a modern Android Auto receiver. Connect your smartphone through USB-OTG, Wi-Fi Direct, Nearby connections, or wireless network detection. Self-Mode can also run Android Auto locally on a supported phone for larger displays and testing.

The open-source app includes hardware-accelerated H.264 and H.265 video, resolutions up to 4K on supported devices, adjustable 30 or 60 FPS playback, independent audio gain controls, Material 3 design, dynamic DPI scaling, and automatic day/night modes. Tasker and MacroDroid integrations enable connection automation. Android Auto 17.4+ wireless and Self-Mode connections require the Headunit Server to be active on the smartphone, while USB connections remain supported.
