Amplenote

Flexible notes and tasks, built by productivity enthusiasts

Features & Capabilities

Amplenote is a powerful Chrome extension designed for productivity enthusiasts who need flexible notes and tasks in one platform. It puts a strong emphasis on data security, with all notes encrypted at rest and the option for Vault Encryption with a private password not stored on servers. Ideal for heavy users, Amplenote offers seamless syncing across mobile and desktop, even for encrypted notes.

Featuring rich footnotes capable of holding text, code, and images with advanced markdown styles, Amplenote seamlessly integrates notes and customizable to-do tasks. Tasks can recur flexibly, auto-remove once completed, and be prioritized as "Urgent" or "Important." Organizational tools like multi-level tag taxonomies allow you to browse notes like directories, replicating familiar structures such as OneNote hierarchies.

Sharing is simple and powerful; notes and tasks can be shared and edited collaboratively or published to the web with one click. The user interface is clean and keyboard-friendly, supporting quick operations and offline work with automatic syncing upon reconnection. Amplenote focuses on essential features without bloat, supporting multiple platforms with a smooth and efficient workflow. Start transferring existing Evernote notes easily and manage your tasks and notes in one secure, synchronized place.

User Reviews

Amplenote is praised for its powerful combination of note-taking, task management, and calendar integration, offering features like recurring tasks, bi-directional links, and multi-device sync. It is regarded as efficient and a potential replacement for several apps. However, the mobile app's performance issues and UI bugs hinder its usability. Some users want folders instead of tag-based organization, and the app has a learning curve due to its unique design. Overall, it is a serious productivity tool with highly responsive developers but could improve mobile experience and UI refinements.
Pros
  • Seamless integration of notes, tasks, and calendar in one app enhances productivity and workflow.
  • Supports robust task management features including repeating/recurring tasks and priority-based tasking.
  • Cross-device synchronization works well, allowing use on desktop, mobile, Chromebook, tablets, and PCs.
  • Rich features like bi-directional links, rich footnotes, markdown support, and tiered hierarchical tagging enable deep organization.
  • Developers are responsive and prioritize privacy, security, and incremental feature development.
  • Importing notes from other apps like Evernote is easy, facilitating smooth transition.
Cons
  • Mobile app has issues such as slow performance, buggy UI behavior, and keyboard glitches, detracting from the experience compared to desktop.
  • Lack of folder support with reliance on tags for organization is inconvenient and unpopular among some users.
  • Some users experience bugs like auto-archiving that can't be disabled, causing frustration.
  • Learning curve exists due to unique functionality and less intuitive aspects, particularly on mobile.

Amplenote just works. Capture your thoughts. Expand those ideas into notes. Within those notes, create tasks. Assign tasks to calendars. Your to-do list is set. It's not always that simple since we, as humans, tend to complicate things, but this format works. No creating a process flow like other apps. No need to install plug-ins to get the basics covered. Like I said, it just works. Love that I can be on a Chromebook, tablet, PC, or phone and be able to do whatever I need in a jiffy. 5+ stars

Amplenote is the perfect balance between a library-esque note organizer and a creative second-brain space. Been trying to find something to streamline my reliance on a notes app, tasks app, and multiple calendars, while desiring to also do daily journaling and project management. There is a learning curve and it isn't always intuitive, but that is in part because there is nothing else quite like it. It really shines on desktop, mobile leaves a bit to be desired but is a good companion.
