User Reviews

BoatSpeedo is praised for its simple, clear, and ad-free interface providing accurate and stable speed readings, beneficial particularly for sailing at low speeds. However, several users note issues with speed fluctuation and inaccuracies, with the app sometimes forgetting unit preferences and lacking orientation options. Its performance on various watercraft like ferries and motorboats is inconsistent, leading to mixed user confidence.
Pros
  • Simple and clear display of speed.
  • Accurate and stable readout, especially useful at low speeds (e.g., sailing).
  • No ads or distractions within the app.
  • Supports decimal places in speed measurement for precision.
  • Works well at speeds below 15 knots/mph (for some users).
Cons
  • Inaccuracy and wild speed fluctuations noted by some users, especially when not moving or at certain speeds.
  • Lack of unit preference memory; app forgets user's chosen units.
  • No horizontal (landscape) orientation support for some users.
  • May not function correctly on certain boats or ferries, causing doubts about overall accuracy.

Using for sailing dinghy training in the 0 to 15 knot range. This does one job pretty well - readout stability is good. Portrait and landscape format with the decimals on the same line as the integers. Works really well. No ads. No distractions. Quick updates while sailing, appropriate damping so numbers don't jerk around With sailing we are continuously referring to fractions of a knot to see if we are accelerating or are going too fast and can point higher to keep to our target speed.
