Timelyshot

On 12 August 2026 the Moon's shadow sweeps across Greenland, Iceland and then Spain, from Galicia and Asturias down to the Mediterranean coast and the Balearics: the first total solar eclipse visible from mainland Spain in over a century, and a deep partial one across the rest of Europe. TimelyShot tells you what you will see from the exact spot where you plan to be, and at what time.

THE ECLIPSE OF 12 AUGUST 2026

- Calculate from your exact spot. Tap the map where you actually plan to watch it, not the nearest big city.
- The path of totality drawn on the map, plus how far you are from it. If you are 20 km short, you know before leaving home.
- Local times for every phase: first contact, maximum and last contact.
- Real darkness: the drop in light your eye will actually perceive, not just the fraction of the Sun's disc that is covered. Human vision is logarithmic, so at 99 % of the disc covered there is still plenty of light. The app explains it and also gives you the technical figure.
- Altitude of the Sun above the horizon at maximum. That day the Sun is very low, so a hill or a building can hide the key moment from you.
- Augmented reality: point your camera at the sky and see the Sun's path drawn over the real landscape, exactly where it will be during the eclipse. If something blocks it, you find out now instead of on the day.
- Eclipse animation with a simulated clock and adjustable speed, so you know what to expect minute by minute.
- Countdown and calendar reminder.

And it is not a one-off: on 2 August 2027 totality returns, this time across southern Spain, North Africa and Egypt, and on 26 January 2028 there is an annular eclipse at sunset. The app handles every eclipse in its catalogue the same way, solar and lunar.

SAFETY

Never look at the Sun directly, or through your camera, without certified eclipse glasses (ISO 12312-2). Only during the seconds of totality is it safe to look with the naked eye.
