Auto Brightness Switch Android

Auto Brightness Switch

Toggle the Auto Brightness setting with the touch of a button.

Features & Capabilities

Auto Brightness Switch is a convenient Chrome extension that lets you quickly toggle your display's auto brightness setting with a single button. Unlike widgets, it doesn't occupy extra memory or clutter your home screen. The extension smartly remembers your last manually set brightness level, so when you disable auto brightness, it returns your screen to your preferred light level.

Designed with simplicity and efficiency in mind, Auto Brightness Switch runs quietly in the background without showing a visual indicator of the current setting. It is open source under the GPL license, inviting developers and users to contribute patches and translations. For any bugs or feedback, users are encouraged to email the developer directly.

User Reviews

Reviewers praise the app for its easy, quick toggle and reliable performance across devices, and view it as a practical fix for the missing OS feature. However, several users report instability or not working, and some wish for more customization (percent controls and ambient-light sensing). Occasional inconvenience from having to reopen the app is noted, and updates are sporadic. Overall, a simple, effective solution with room for feature enhancements.
Pros
  • Quick, one-click toggle of auto brightness via the app icon or a Favorites Tray
  • Simple and effective; easy to use and meets the need
  • Reliable across Android versions and devices, and keeps working over time
  • Provides a practical workaround for Android's lack of a built-in quick auto-brightness switch
Cons
  • Some users report it doesn't work or is unreliable for them
  • Lacks advanced customization (no percent-based brightness control, no ambient light sensing)
  • Occasional need to reopen the app to toggle, which can be inconvenient for some users
  • Some reviewers note lack of updates or ongoing maintenance

A simple and effective way of turning auto brightness on/off without the time-consuming scroll through system settings. Add it to your app Favourites Tray and it's just one click to change (2 if you have an app or browser open) instead of 5 swipes/clicks. It's unbelievable this isn't a standard OS feature, at least not in Android 10, it should at least be a selectable shortcut on the slide-down quick-settings tray. I would give 5* if app showed at a glance whether auto brightness was on or off.

This thing has been absolutely amazing and has continued to work regardless of how old it is. It uses its own app icon as the switch, simply press on it and it will turn automatic brightness on or off. When automatic brightness is off, it will remember the brightness that you set it to. The next time you turn auto brightness off it will go back to the memorized setting. It makes it so easy to switch to 100% brightness when I'm in the dark.
