There are some dead areas where the pumpkin flashlight is useless because the light beam cannot enter it and the bouncy ball will just bounce around in the area, but generally the light beam works on most of the area. Collect stars by guiding the bouncy ball to touch the star and avoid traps or other deadly objects or you will die.
