Easy and intuitive player statistics tracking for team sports

Player Stats is an educational application that makes students' actual activity visible during matches.

In team sports, many aspects of the game remain difficult for students to grasp: off-the-ball movement, involvement, effectiveness of actions, etc.
The application offers a simple framework for observing, quantifying, and interpreting these elements in real time.

The goal is to move students from simply "feeling like they're playing" to students who can concretely understand their role in the game.

During the match, an observing student records a player's actions using a deliberately streamlined interface.

Each action is categorized according to two criteria:
with or without the ball
useful, neutral, or ineffective action

Observation then becomes accessible to all students, even beginners.

Three input methods to suit students
The application offers three ways to record actions:
A gesture-based mode: a single button per player, with quick action selection

A controller-based mode designed to be very intuitive for students who hold the tablet like a controller: player selection with the left thumb and action selection with the right thumb.

A classic mode: separate buttons for each type of action
This multiple input method allows each student to choose the most suitable mode, while maintaining a clear and immediate overview of the observed activity.

*A first, original input method: "gesture-based" input

This method of entering observation indicators simplifies the screen, with only one button per player, thus reducing the information overload for students when recording the action performed by the observed student.

The principle:
One button per player.

When recording an observed action, pressing the button opens an action panel:

- With ball to the right of the circle
- Without ball to the left of the circle
- From top for successful actions to bottom for unsuccessful actions.

Thus, after a necessary learning period of a few minutes, the student will be able to record actions very intuitively.

Summary data bars display the current statistics for each player.

A second innovative input method: the controller mode
This input method is designed to be intuitive for the student.
They hold the tablet like a controller: the left thumb selects the player, while the right thumb selects the action performed.

The screen is even more streamlined in terms of visual information. The hands do not need to move during data entry, which is therefore very fast.

After a few minutes of training, the observer hardly needs to leave the playing field.

A third, more traditional data entry method
A more traditional data entry method is available, allowing each observer to choose the method they are most comfortable with.

Six input buttons are then set up for each player:
The three categories of actions (useful and successful, not very useful, and unsuccessful) with and without the ball.
Here too, statistics bars provide an overview of the ongoing game data.

Making player activity visible
The collected data is instantly translated into simple visual indicators.

Each student can quickly identify their playing profile based on two dimensions:

- their level of activity (volume of actions)
- their effectiveness (success rate of actions)
This visualization highlights often invisible elements, including:
off-the-ball involvement
consistency in actions
the actual impact on the team game

The results obtained serve as a basis for:
discussions between students
analyzing a performance
identifying areas for improvement
The application thus allows for the gradual implementation of a game analysis approach, essential in team sports.
