OBJECTIVE
In this experiment, you will learn to identify the main risks that you will be exposed to in a practical laboratory, as well as the actions to minimize them, based on observing a risk map.

At the end of this experiment, you should be able to:

identify chemical, physical, biological, ergonomic and accident risks present in the laboratory;

identify the main personal protective equipment (EPIs) and collective protective equipment (EPCs) used in the laboratory environment;

recognize and explore the physical space of the laboratory;

prepare a risk map.

2. WHERE TO USE THESE CONCEPTS?
The concepts of risks in biosafety are important in themselves, as they provide healthcare professionals with the perception of what they need to do to protect themselves, the environment and the community in which they operate. Therefore, understanding the levels and classes of risks to which the individual is exposed in a laboratory environment is essential to devise effective strategies to minimize them.

Now, imagine a scenario: you have been invited to work at a microbiological research institute. You know that there is work involving microorganisms that are extremely dangerous to humans, in several laboratories, with different levels of risk. You're on your first day of work and you still don't know the institute. How, then, will you know which personal protective equipment (PPE) to use when entering a particular laboratory? At this point, you recognize the importance of the risk map, which you must analyze before entering any environment, to identify the levels and classes of risks to which you will be exposed and take the necessary measures with the use of appropriate PPE.

Therefore, the risk map must be displayed in an accessible location for analysis by space users, before entering the environment. But individuals also need to be aware of what the colors and graphic representations displayed there mean.

3. THE EXPERIMENT
The experiment will consist of two moments: observation of the laboratory environment, in which you will have to reconnoitre the laboratory; and the execution of the report and risk map, based on the noted data and observations. When visiting the laboratory, you must be wearing appropriate clothing (long pants, closed shoes, without ornaments), lab coat, gloves and protective glasses. You must also take appropriate precautions when touching equipment and benches, in addition to avoiding handling exposed materials without authorization.

You must ask questions about what activities are carried out there, which products are handled and where, in addition to having minimal knowledge of the flow of activities within that space. This information will be important for creating the report and risk map.

4. SECURITY
In accordance with biosecurity rules, you must wear long pants (preferably jeans; avoid leggings), closed shoes (completely covering the back of the foot) and, in case of long hair, keep it tied with an elastic band throughout the entire period. length of stay in the laboratory. Above all, you must behave appropriately to the environment, avoiding touching and moving objects and equipment without authorization.

5. SCENARIO
The initial scenario of the practice will be a health laboratory, containing equipment, benches for carrying out procedures, a place to store materials for use in experiments, chairs and/or benches.
