User reviews
The Universal TV Remote Control app is appreciated for reducing physical remotes and working well with some devices like LG and Roku TVs. Users find it intuitive and functional when connected. However, many report connectivity issues requiring frequent app restarts, intrusive ads, and problematic payment/activation processes involving credit card information. Lack of support for certain TV brands like Vizio and excessive permissions requested raise privacy concerns. Overall, while the app can be convenient, reliability and trust are ongoing issues for multiple users.
Pros
- Allows controlling TV without physical remote, reducing clutter.
- Works well with some TV brands like LG and Roku across both IR and Wi-Fi.
- Simple and intuitive interface when connected.
- Offers navigation controls that some original remotes lack.
- Free version available with option to remove ads via payment.
Cons
- Unreliable connection; app often disconnects or requires restarting to work.
- Ads are intrusive and frequent; even after payment users complain about them.
- Requires expensive or questionable credit card info for activation, sometimes resulting in unauthorized charges.
- Limited or no support for certain TV brands; Vizio support is lacking.
- App demands excessive permissions, raising privacy and security concerns.

This is a really great app, and it barely took me 2 minutes to set my TV up! But some advice I have is: My TV measures volume from 1-100, and because the volume doesn't change when you long press the volume button, it's very tedious when you have to press the volume button over and over. And second: You could add a vibrate feature whenever you press a button. It feels really delicate to use the app otherwise. But overall, it's an awesome app!
