CloakID Firefox

CloakID

By: CloakID Add-on
Protection against browser fingerprinting. Your browser presents a common, consistent persona instead of your unique fingerprint — explicit per-site protection with its real state always visible. Not a VPN. Currently in a private pilot.

Features & Capabilities

WHAT CLOAKID DOES

Browser fingerprinting identifies you by how your browser looks and behaves — no cookies needed, across sites, even in private mode. CloakID protects against it. On supported sites, your browser presents a common, consistent persona derived from real-world data instead of your unique fingerprint, so you blend into a crowd rather than standing out. Random fingerprints are themselves a signal; a common one is not.

HONEST ABOUT COVERAGE

We tell you what is protected, and what is not:

  • Explicit, per-site protection: on supported sites CloakID applies its persona and content protections; on unsupported sites it tells you so instead of pretending.
  • Visible protection state: the extension shows the real status of the page you are on — protected, partially protected, or not protected.
  • Honest trade-offs: first visits to new sites can take a moment longer while content is processed.

HOW IT WORKS

CloakID is a browser extension paired with a secure processing gateway hosted in the European Union. The extension presents websites with the persona; the gateway processes page content to support those protections. Infrastructure is EU-hosted with data minimization as an engineering principle. WHAT CLOAKID DOES NOT DO

  • It does not mask your IP address and is not a VPN — pair it with the transport-layer tool of your choice.
  • It does not guarantee protection on unsupported sites — it shows you its real state instead.
  • It is in active development: some pages may render imperfectly under protection. Telling us is the fastest way to get them fixed.
CURRENT STATUS: PRIVATE DESIGN-PARTNER PILOT

CloakID is being used by a small, invited group of privacy-conscious professionals who shape it with direct feedback. Onboarding during the pilot is free. If you would like to take part: https://www.cloakid.net/contact

PRIVACY

We collect only the minimum data needed to run the service; any non-essential processing is strictly opt-in. Full details: https://www.cloakid.net/privacy-policy · https://www.cloakid.net/trust-center

Is CloakID Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

CloakID requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.
