Clear Cache Firefox

Clear Cache

By: TenSoja
Global cache cleanup and site data (cookies/storage) with time periods and notifications. Great for developers. F9 shortcut included!

Features & Capabilities

Clear Cache is a fast, controlled browser cleanup tool with time-based presets from last 15 minutes to all time. It supports selective cleaning of cache, cookies, history, downloads, form data, passwords, plugin data, and storage, and can also clear only the current site’s data (cookies/storage) with a notification of what was cleared.

Designed for developers, QA, and power users, it provides a one-click toolbar action, the F9 shortcut, and an optional clear-and-reload context menu. The extension is privacy-conscious and open source, stores preferences locally, and is available across platforms (Chrome and Firefox) with some features varying by platform.

User Reviews

Users find Clear Cache useful for debugging and data clearing, but report major reliability and safety issues. The most frequent concerns are that it sometimes clears data for all sites despite a current-tab option, forcing logins to reappear; it’s not reliable on some Firefox versions or Android; the extension popup is intrusive; and the defaults lack a safety confirmation, risking accidental data loss. These issues undermine trust despite its usefulness when it works.
Pros
  • Clears browser data (cache and cookies) effectively and as advertised.
  • Very useful for web/extension development and troubleshooting.
  • Does exactly what it says; aligns with user expectations when it works.
Cons
  • Wipes data for all sites even when 'current tab' is selected; current-tab option is broken, leading to unintended data loss.
  • Clears cookies/logins across many sites, causing the user to relogin.
  • Not reliably functioning on some Firefox versions and is unavailable on Android.
  • Pop-up window appears on extension click and lacks an auto-close option.
  • Aggressive default behavior with no confirmation prompt, risking accidental data loss.

Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.
