Chrome Mask Firefox

Chrome Mask

Makes Firefox wear a mask to look like Chrome to websites that block Firefox otherwise.

Features & Capabilities

Chrome Mask is a Firefox extension that enables users to toggle their browser's identity to appear as Google Chrome on specific websites. Unlike generic user agent spoofers, this extension selectively masks Firefox only on user-defined sites and automatically updates the spoofed Chrome version daily by querying an external API. It also adjusts other browser attributes like navigator.vendor and the global chrome object to pass common browser checks seamlessly.

This ensures compatibility with sites that block Firefox browsers, enhancing browsing accessibility without compromising user experience. With its smart OS detection and easy one-click toggle, Chrome Mask provides a simple yet powerful solution for Firefox users facing browser restrictions.

User Reviews

Chrome Mask helps Firefox mimic Chrome, often boosting YouTube speed and usability and is praised for ease of use and solving issues for some users. However, it frequently breaks YouTube playback or disables subtitles, and compatibility is spotty on certain sites like F1 TV. Overall, it’s useful for specific workflows, but YouTube reliability and site compatibility are notable downsides.
Pros
  • Chrome disguise enables a Chrome-like experience on Firefox, giving users the best of both worlds.
  • YouTube performance improves (faster loading and smoother usability) when the extension is active.
  • Easy to use with a simple, one-click disguise to Chrome.
  • Generally positive impact and problem-solving for some users (works well for certain workflows).
Cons
  • Subtitles/captions on YouTube frequently don’t work or disappear.
  • YouTube playback can break or become inconsistent due to how the extension manipulates CORS.
  • Not all sites are supported (e.g., F1 TV may not work with the extension).
  • Inconsistent behavior on YouTube; some users report that it doesn’t work at all for YouTube.

I don't know how to rate it, I only tried it on Microsoft clipchamp, but it keeps saying that I have an unsupported browser. It wants either chrome or Microsoft edge.

Is Chrome Mask Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Chrome Mask requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.
