The 'One Tab Only' is a Chrome extension targeted at giving users clarity and organization while they browse. Upon changing tab URLs, the extension checks if the new URL matches with a predefined domain URL. If a match is found, the extension opens the URL in the pre-existing tab with the same domain, closing the original source tab. Users can define the domain URL via the extension options link. Additionally, the extension offers notifications which can be disabled at the user's discretion.

If change happens on any tab URL, the extension will check if the domain of new URL is matching with the defined and configured domain URL pattern. In case if there is a match all the tabs will be checked for configured domain URL, and if any tab found with the same domain the new URL will be opened in the already existing tab and the tab sourcing the URL will be closed. You can configure the domain URL from the extension options link on the extension details page. The extension is also sending notification if a match happen what can be switched off on the options screen.
User reviews
- Only allows ONE url to be stored for matching.
- Far too aggressive. Matches as soon as you start typing. And since Chrome remembers URLs you've typed previously and tries to autocomplete, it matches as soon as you type a single letter -- so, you can no longer type OTHER url's beginning with the same letter!
Example: If you have "https://www.google.com/" stored and you press "g" (like say, to type ANY other URL starting with a 'g'), it will close the tab and jump back to your open Google tab.
I've been looking for something like this, but this extension won't cut it.
It works well! But I miss that it does not detect URLs from the same domain that are already open in another window and not in another tab of the same window. Could this be done? :)
